My books finally arrived Norway!

After 13 days my photographic sketchbook arrived safely by mail with a little help from my friends and Albert (Hein). I am quite happy with the result, some small errors of course, but not bad at all, being from the supermarket. Otherwise I am now safely installed in my new, old house-back in my part-time teaching job but also continuing some of the ideas that I was so lucky to be able to start exploring during my stay in Holland.

July is soon turning into august and in a couple of days my time as guestartist in Baztille ateliers is over. I must say I really had a special and privileged month here in Holland. Yesterday I showed my "work in progress" in the studio, and although I was a little bit stressed out before the event it was a good experience. Interested and friendly people giving feedback on my work is nice and light luggage to carry back to Norway. As I have been working with installations, photos and buttons I am taking these last days to experiment with something else: ink on paper.

Yesterday the sun came back to Holland, I visited Haag where I saw the landart of James Tyrell and biked around in the city. In the evening I had dinner with Robert, Petra and Jeroen from the BaZtille and it was decided that I am going to have a small show of my work in progress the upcoming sunday. So today I am a busy sorting out my work and making a new installation with the buttons.

Finally finished the book today with good help from some of the people here at BaZtille. Yahoo!! :-) Now the exitement will be to see how it looks when it is printed. The work took me my nightsleep, though-so feeling a little bit out of focus now. My internet connection in the apartment is gone, as my neighbours now made their wireless internet connection a "safe" network. Well, it was nice as long as it lasted, now I am the offline girl after studiotime.

It is friday afternoon and I think I should spend the weekend working as I have started to puzzle bits and pieces from my projects here together in a book. I am using a super simple program, a type of "make your own photoalbum" product from the dutch supermarket Albert Hein, but still it is rather time consuming. A visit to the second hand shop also resulted in some new ideas:-)

Two beautiful textile museums hidden in the city of Tilburg was shown to me by the local guide Ien Dobbelaar, followed by lovely food and a flamenco lesson!

Wow, already 14 days here! I can hardly believe it. Although my first ambition was not to have any big ambitions, I am starting to think about what the outcome of my stay should be. My "flink pike" (good girl?) need of proof that something has been achived or done, I guess. But I still have half my days left, and I am just going to keep working..and playing. Tomorrow I am off for a daytrip to some nice museums in Tilburg with Ien, so the studio will be left alone.

Lovely and quiet at the studio today:-) I set my mind to make this button clocks in the beginning of the week, but ironically enough: it has taken a lot more TIME than I thought, although they are very simple looking things. I guess it should take time to make a clock, but I am hoping to finish them tomorrow. Inspired by Neil Youngs song I found a heart of gold in my button collection as a little break from the clocks.

Today me and Ien went back to the nice old café to do some more pictures- a world full of nostalgic and strange objects that also goes with what I am working on in the studio at the moment. The rain keeps falling in the land of the windmills and sometimes I forget to get my sleep, so this afternoon I have been having an imaginary sunday.

It has been a lot of rain the last few days, but the sun shines through the window of my studio once and a while, and as a result I get these beautiful light and shadow pictures on my wall.

Today’s mission was to do a very short movie/animation with some buttons and the words SAVE and UNDO. I used the simple and basic program "Moviemaker" that exists on most Windows based computers, but it seemed like my computer didn’t like me using it as it kept freezing and shutting down. Very annoying, but luckily I managed to finish my experiment at last. Maybe the poor machine has been a bit too busy the last week? Anyway, I am leaving it to rest now, hoping that it will be in a better mood tomorrow.

The Beatles had a point when they made the song "All you need is love", but after one week in Holland I’d rather say "all you need is a bike". At least it is a good start to have a bike, and maybe easier to find too. I really enjoy moving around on a bike instead of a bus, train, metro, scooter, car or whatever, and although I am not in the best of shapes these days I get by all right because it is super flat everywhere.

Wow, how the days fly! I have already been here for 6 days, and can hardly believe it. Today I had a lazy Sunday morning with nice breakfast, lots of coffee and some updating of the layout at my blogsites. After lunch I biked my way down to the studio to sort out some buttons..and guess what, I am still here. Luckily my studio-neighbour has an excellent taste of music, it is like having a personal DJ in the room next door, he also has the pleasant habit of feeding me vine and coffee from time to time, in other words, time passes quickly.

Last night I could not sleep, maybe it was the pillow or the madrass, or maybe my intuition could sense the arrival of the unexpected but expected e-mail I recieved today? Anyway, I got up around 04 am. to get some water, and my view through the curtains was quite beautiful.

The last few months I have been asked to deliver a portrait photo of myself on various occations, related to different projects and catalogues. This may sound like a simple task for someone like myself that loves photography-but the truth is I really hate having my own photo taken. My face goes all stiff and funny, and I can't wait for it to be over with. The result is that I don´t have any pictures of myself. I never really thought I would need them or want them either, but after a while living on my own, with days and years passing and slipping away, I have decided to try to keep some sort of a photographic record of myself too. This picture is from the residency apartment and also include my beloved camera. And yes, it is out of focus, like I am from time to time.

Unexpected joys. Long-time-no-see-friend Ien, a bowl made of paper wrapped like a pumpkin, bubbles on a secondhand shelf, an acrylic pen in the artshop, 3 movies from El Bruc and photosafari in a very nice and old café with secret rooms and a friendly chef.

My intentions for my first day was not too ambitious, I wanted to take it slow, unpack, get to know the place and my way to the studio- and I think the mission is completed. I have been biking around and I must say I am really fascinated by the smooth and friendly way of traffic in this town. Also, I found it very suitable that half of the windows in my studio are covered in bubblewrap-as I am quite a big fan of bubbles
